Chain sword plant dead!?
I have a 29 gallon tank. Freshwater. I have an anacharis plant witch is growing well, a amazon sword witch is also growing well, but my chain sword dies! Why? I use fertilizer with all the nutrients. I have an aqua-glo 20 w light.I also have to co2 makers (I made them with yeast and sugar) And i have 6 angel fish. I add aquarium salt.
Simply put, you don’t have enough light. Chain Swords require more lighting than your other two plants, and it doesn’t matter what fertilizers or CO2 you add, light is the most important element, and your Chain Swords aren’t getting enough.
If you want to grow Chain Swords in a 29g, I would suggest that you replace your current light fixture with either a 65w compact fluorescent fixture or a 48w double T5HO fixture. If you can’t but still want a “grassy” plant, look into Dwarf Sags – they look similar to Chain Swords, but grow a bit taller and are far more tolerant of low light conditions.
