Betta Fish Sickness – What Should You Do If You Suspect Your Betta Fish Is Sick
What should you do if you suspect that your betta is suffering from some sort of betta fish sickness?
The first thing you absolutely should do is to take all of the necessary actions to clean your fish’s habitat, if you suspect that it may not be clean. Change the water. Replace or clean the rocks and the plants. Make sure the water temperature is optimal for your fish. Make sure that the aquarium / bowl is clean.
Secondly, you will need to assess your fish’s eating habits to ensure that you are feeding your betta the proper foods at the proper intervals of time.
Thirdly, you will need to visually observe your fish’s appearance and behavior to determine whether or not it may be suffering from some sort of betta fish sickness.
How are the fish’s fins, tail, scales, and eyes? Do you notice any unusual discoloration? Any bloatedness? Any deterioration?
How is your fish’s activity level? Is it mostly docile or hyperactive? Is your betta responding appropriately to external stimuli? Is your fish eating properly as per normal routine, or is it not taking any interest in food?
The good news is that most forms of betta fish sickness can be cured, if caught in the early stages. The solutions typically involve natural solutions, although in some situations, special medication formulated just for betta fish might be warranted. The only thing you need is to be patient and persistent. It can take days or weeks for your fish to recover.
You saved your betta’s life from the pet store’s tiny cup. Now you must learn how to make your betta into the most comfortable, safe, and cared-for fish in the world. If you are a true betta fish lover or animal enthusiast in general, then you should know that taking care of betta fish involves a great deal more than just doing the bare minimum, which is to change its water and feed it. There is a lot more involved in properly caring for your fish, such as water quality, water temperature, the nature of the fish’s habitat in terms of volume of space, rocks, plants, lighting conditions, whether or not you wish to breed your fish, and your fish’s social interactions with other fish versus being kept in isolation. If you want to keep your fish healthy, beautiful, active, energetic, and alive for as long as possible, then you have to be willing to go the extra mile in order to provide a better quality of life for your fish. And it all starts with a little bit of education.
Taking care of betta fish can truly be an extremely rewarding experience, so why not go the extra mile and learn everything that there is to know about the proper care, feeding, and nurturing of our little marine friends, the betta splendens (otherwise known as siamese fighting fish)?
Who else wants a beautiful, healthy betta fish, swimming happily in a stunning tank, without having to spend a bundle or constantly worry about your betta’s health?

Aquarium gravel suddenly discolored?
We’re first time fish owners and have had our 20 gallon tank for about 2 months. We’ve been cleaning the tank (emptying 1/2 the water and replacing it with new water) about every 10 days. Today I noticed the gravel – which used to be bright white and blue – now looks old and rusty. Even the fake plant looks a little orange/brown. What is this and how can we fix it? Thanks!
NEVER put in chemicals unless it’s really necessary
other then that, cleaning your tank correctly is your best bet
you’re suppose to do partial waterchanges of 25% weekly, wich a gravelsiphon, and not just take out 50% of the water and replace
what you see is brown algae, which is forming, because you feed your fish to much or don’t have enough light in your tank
but i think it’s waste which doesn’t get taken out with your cleanings you’re doing
you could actually get a couple of bristlenose plecos for your tank, they will take care of this kind of algae in no time
Hope that helps
Good luck
